Resumé Contact Me Thoughts On Design

The year is 2001. Someone sends you this logo

and asks you to design a e-commerce site called "FlamingBaseball.com."

Once you determine that the client is non-negotiable about the provided artwork or the name and you stop laughing, you get to work. More to the point, you get to workarounds.

  1. You keep the logo graphic, but enhance it slightly, and then hide it behind the header text.
  2. Use black along with the traditional "red, white and blue" of Major League Baseball and rugged, heavy type to make the site distinctly masculine.
  3. Put "Flaming Baseball" into a context with the tagline, "The Competitive Edge" and use stock photos that convey action and toughness.
  4. Did I say stock photography? The baseball player wearing the orange shirt is a high school photo of the client's son, who was signed last year by the St. Louis Cardinals. It was a great shot and the client couldn't have been happier
  5. Say what you will, the only one laughing now is my client—all the way to the bank. FlamingBaseball.com has become a huge success.

This website for FlamingBaseball.com,
a baseball equipment “superstore”, managed to find just the right tone to connect with its customers.
